Solar Water Heating Systems in Algarve: Save Energy and Cut Costs
Why Choose Solar Water Heating in Algarve?
With over 300 sunny days each year, Algarve is the perfect region for solar water heating systems. The Algarve’s sunny climate is ideal for solar heating systems, providing reliable and consistent energy throughout the year. Solar heating systems capture sunlight and convert it into heat, ensuring your home stays warm and your water stays hot, even during cloudy weather in the winter months it will boost the water temperature significantly.
By harnessing free, renewable energy from the sun, you can cut your utility bills by up to 80% for heating water, and reduce heating costs for your home or pool.
For over 25 years we’ve been installing effective solar water heating solutions that are designed to lower your energy bills and reduce your carbon footprint. Whether you’re looking to install a solar hot water system for your home or business, we have the expertise to offer you the best solution.
Abundant Sunshine for Maximum Efficiency
How Solar Heating Works
Pumped System

- Solar Collectors: Installed on your roof or another sunny location, these panels absorb the sun’s energy.
- Heat Transfer: The collected heat is transferred to water/ glycol fluid in the system.
- Solar controller: measures the temperature difference between the panels and the tank and activates a pump to circulate the fluid to heat a storage tank for hot water and heating.
- Storage: A solar storage tank holds the hot water, ensuring you have hot water available even when the sun isn’t shining.
- Backup System: On cloudy days, a backup system (like a traditional boiler or electric element) can supplement the solar system, ensuring you always have hot water.
Thermo-Siphon System

A thermo-siphon system is where the storage tank is connected above the panels. As the panels heat up, the fluid natrually rises up through the tank where it disperses the heat and returns to the panel. No pump is required and these systems only can be backed up by an electric element.
This system is a cheaper alternative but is far more visible as the tank is attached to the panels. It is also less efficient in winter as the storage tank is outside and the the backup electric element will be required more often.
Maintenance and Durability
The panels themselves are built to last and can provide energy for 20 to 25 years or more with minimal upkeep. Most systems will need an annual service to ensure optimal performance.
Versatile Applications
Solar heating systems can be used for various applications, including:
- Domestic hot water: Heat water for your showers, kitchen, and appliances.
- Home heating: Combine solar heating with underfloor heating or radiators to keep your home warm in the cooler months.
- Pool heating: Extend your swimming season by using solar energy to warm your pool.
